THE SAUCE

“Life is a combination of magic and pasta.”

How the sauce started it all

This is the story of how a simple bowl of pasta sauce sparked over 500,000 relationships, helping some of the most successful people on the planet connect around the dinner table.

In the summer of 2015, our Founder, Chris Schembra, returned home to New York City after producing a Broadway play in Italy. He felt disconnected from his work and isolated. Chris started experimenting in his kitchen and created a pasta sauce recipe.

He invited 15 friends over for dinner and served his new pasta sauce. The sauce was amazing, but there was something they all enjoyed more. The format of the dinner: delegated tasks, shared activities, and communal discussion. It felt real.

Now, we serve the Signature Sauce at 7:47 Gratitude Dinners all over the world, using Chris’ recipe he shared with his friends.

Buy a jar, give a jar

About one in six Americans experience food insecurity today. There’s so much food to go around. It shouldn’t be this way.

For every jar of sauce you purchase as part of your 7:47 Gratitude Experience™, we donate a jar to organizations who help feed people in need. It’s part of the way we want to give back and give thanks.

Why we think pasta and carbs are good things.

Preparing and eating simple pasta dinners in a group is at the center of our 7:47 Gratitude Experience™ model. It’s an evidence-based framework that helps strengthen relationships of all kinds. But we do hear objections occasionally when it comes to CARBS.

Carbs may be the food villain-du-jour in certain circles, but we think they’re a good thing. Here’s why.

Carbohydrates contain tryptophan, which is a nonessential amino acid. As tryptophan levels increase in the brain, more serotonin is synthesized and mood improves.

That’s science talk for “carbs make you happy.” While everyone is going carb-free in an effort to be physically healthy, we’re suffering mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

If we’re happy and full from carbs, we’re more apt to form social connections. Maybe this explains why Italy ranks above the average in income and wealth, work-life balance, civic engagement, social connections and health status, and why firefighters who cook and eat together perform better as a team.
