How do I start a gratitude practice?
“How do I start a gratitude practice?”
I’m gonna tell you a secret: I hate this question.
Why? Because there are tons of “gratitude products” on the market today.
If you walk into any bookstore, you can probably buy a gratitude journal and write a list of things you’re thankful for.
But is that going to help you get to the root of gratitude, or more specifically, why gratitude can be so challenging to integrate into your life?
For gratitude to take form, you need to deeply experience it. And you need to witness others experience and express it—what we at 7:47 call “observational gratitude.”
Gratitude can be a lens through which we view the world differently than we might have before.
Practicing this gratitude in a prosocial way, with others will build the internal resources for gratitude far better than merely practicing it on your own.
That’s the difference between forming a habit and transforming your lifestyle. Prosocial gratitude helps create accountable actions.
How will you make the shift from a mere daily habit to a full gratitude-oriented mindset?
